The Ngati Poneke Maori Arts and the Ngati Poneke Young Maori Club are affiliated to the Ngati Poneke Maori Association Inc. and altogether we make up the Ngati Poneke Whanau. Our Whare is called Te Upoko o Te Ika a Maui which is situated on the old Pipitea Pa Site.

  1. To promote and encourage the preservation of New Zealand Maoritanga, History, Tradition, Mythology, Language, Whenua, Whanau,Waiata, Poi, Haka, Whakairo, Tukutuku.
  2. To foster promote and advance the traditional and contempory culture, educational, social, recreational and occupational activities of the New Zealand Maori people, their kin and friends as an integral part of the community of New Zealand.
  3. To provide and maintain a Marae Runanga where all new Zealand Maori and all other people with similar objectives feel they are welcome.
  4. To foster and promote understanding, reciprocal appreciation of anothers point of view and the strengthening of friendly relations between the New Zealand Maori and all other races.
  5. To foster and maintain pride and dignity in being a New Zealand Maori and a New Zealand citizen.

To promote, revel in and develop Maori traditional and contemporary artistic concepts which come from a traditional base for Maori participation and celebration.

  1. To embrace all Maori tribal areas, Hapu, Whanau, Marae and all people
  2. To endeavor to promote Maori Artists as the only true producers of traditional and contemporary Maori art forms
  3. To hold 3 festivals every year with different timeframes and formats
  4. To provide workshop-wananga after each festival to prepare for the follow-on festival
